The International Maritime Forum BeFOR BeGREEN

For the second consecutive year, the International Congress Center Burgas hosted the International Maritime Forum BeFOR BeGREEN. Organized by "Port of Burgas" EAD and the Municipality of Burgas, the event was held with the support of the "South Bulgarian Maritime Education Center," the Bulgarian Association of Shipmasters, "Shippossible LTD," and the Burgas Maritime Association.

During the forum, which took place in honor of the International Day of the Seafarer, the Director of "Port of Burgas" EAD, Diyan Dimov, announced that a second ferry line to Batumi would be launched within days.

Two discussion panels addressed key topics such as "New Technologies for Eco-Friendly Shipping" and "Green Ports – Infrastructure and Services." Among the speakers were Iglica Yakova, Deputy Head of "Blue Policies" at the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission; Petar Benov, a state expert at the Directorate for National Transport Policy under the Ministry of Transport and Communications; and Professor Marusya Lyubcheva from the "Black Sea Institute." Nick Shaw, Chairman of the International Group of P&I Clubs, spoke about the challenges of marine insurance and the development of a greener insurance industry.

The forum once again brought together maritime professionals from the region. Last year, it issued a declaration recognizing Bulgarian seafarers as a key maritime profession. This year, an agreement was signed with the Portuguese city of Sines, whose port has a strong tradition in environmental sustainability.
