The Planetarium in Burgas, constructed by the State Enterprise "Port Infrastructure" (DРPI), has been nominated for the esteemed national award "Building of the Year" in the "Social Infrastructure – Culture" category for 2023. This iconic structure is located in the Public Access Zone of Burgas Port, right next to the Marine Station at Terminal Burgas-East 1. More than just a building, the Planetarium serves as a connection between modern architecture and the vast cosmos, creating a one-of-a-kind space for education, entertainment, and social interaction. The project highlights DPPI's strong commitment to science, education, and society, which it continues to emphasize.
The Planetarium features a reflective stainless-steel sphere mounted on sectors. The surrounding ring is made from metal profiles and covered with weather-resistant materials. The hall has a capacity of 50 seats, arranged radially around the center of the 8-meter projection dome to ensure an optimal viewing experience. State-of-the-art 3D visualization equipment enables visitors to explore some of the mysteries of the universe.
The Planetarium at the "PlanetUm" Science Center completes the overall concept of creating a unified urban educational hub, where children and parents can acquire new knowledge and skills in an entertaining and engaging way through encounters with science.
The "Building of the Year" national competition is the most renowned and prestigious event in Bulgaria’s investment projects, construction, and architecture sectors. Its goal is to recognize the best achievements in the implementation of modern building projects during the respective year in Bulgaria, along with the involved investors, architects, and builders. It’s worth noting that in 2020, the International Congress Center in Burgas received the prestigious "Building of the Year" award in the "Urban Development Projects – Urban Environment and Culture" category. The recognition came from the 31-member jury of the "Building of the Year" national competition, made up of distinguished professionals and creative industry leaders.
