The largest geographical event in Bulgaria is expected to attract over 500 participants from across the country. The 9th edition of Bulgarian Geographic Festival will take place on April 27 and 28 at the International Congress Center in Burgas, the Trade High School in Burgas, the Peyo K. Yavorov Regional Library, and the Sea Garden.
The festival`s program includes fascinating exhibitions, competitions for students, teachers and university students, popular science presentations by leading experts, interactive and practical contests, a geographical quiz for students, thematic booths and many surprises.
Participants will include students, teachers, university students, and geography enthusiasts.
On the first day of the festival, April 27, from 13:00 to 15:00, three thematic presentations will be held by scholars from Faculty of Geology and Geography at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. These will include “If Anyone Says It`s Impossible” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgi Bardarov, “Data-based Cartography” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Evgeniya Sarafova and “The New Geography” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Zhelev. The presentations will take place in the Black Sea Hall of the Congress Center.
On Sunday, April 28, at 11:00, geographical presentations by scholars and travelers such as Svilen Rusanov, Kristian Kirilov and Lyubomir Popyordanov will be held at the Congress Center. At 12:30, the final of the team student competition “Geographiada” will take place, and at 13:30, the award ceremony and closing of the festival will begin.
The event is organized by Geograph BG, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the Municipality of Burgas and the Bulgarian Geographical Society. This year`s edition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Geography Department at Sofia University.
