On 12 May 2026, an official ceremony was held at the International Congress Centre Burgas to mark the successful completion of the “East-to-West Connections” project by BMF Port Burgas AD.
The project was co-funded by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) – Transport sector. Its primary objective was to improve railway access to the Port of Burgas by developing new railway infrastructure at the Burgas West and Burgas East-2 terminals, enabling them to accommodate train formations up to 740 metres in length.
The project also contributes to reducing harmful carbon emissions by promoting rail transport and enhancing intermodality at the port through more efficient cargo transshipment and shunting operations.
During the event, the main stages of the project’s implementation were presented, along with the results achieved in improving railway connectivity, increasing terminal capacity and promoting sustainable transport.
Official guests included representatives of government institutions, local authorities, business partners and clients. The ceremony provided an opportunity for professional dialogue and recognition of all those who contributed to the project’s successful completion, one year ahead of schedule.
